Course
level: Suitable
for all levels.
This course aims to... introduce learners to the
delights of stumpwork by using traditional techniques but with 20th century
materials. To encourage students to experiment with new techniques and develop
individual ideas.
It is for... beginners to stumpwork embroidery or those
with previous knowledge who want to learn more. Learners can either use one of
the tutor’s patterns or make an embroidery of their own choice.
During the course... learners will learn through
group and individual tuition and with the aid of handouts:

By the end of the course… you should be able to:
· Make a head and hands
· Make a hat and decorate it in different ways
· Make a bowler and top hat
· Make a parasol
· Use embroidery and needlelace stitches
· Make and apply component parts neatly

may attend further courses at Missenden Abbey on stumpwork

Tutor profile: Kay Dennis is an experienced stumpwork
and needlelace tutor who regularly teaches at various colleges, guild branches
and private groups around the country. Kay currently teaches City & Guilds
stumpwork for the Embroiderers' Guild and has written three books on the
subject.
