This course aims to... give learners the knowledge and
confidence to use Paint Shop Pro X2 to create original designs for transfer to
fabrics.
It is for... textile learners with little or no
knowledge of computer graphics who would like to produce their own designs on
fabric for use in embroidery, machine embroidery, patchwork, stumpwork etc.
During the course... learners will be guided
through a series of design exercises based on the use of the digital camera,
creative use of the scanner, producing and modifying natural and created pictures,
the use of borders and frames, colour theory, presentation of work, and the
printing of created designs onto a variety of fabrics.
Assessment will be... continuous and ongoing with
tutor and peer observation and feedback.
By the end of the course… you should be able to:
· Create computer images using camera, scanner and freehand tools
· Transfer the images to various fabric types
After the course... you can progress to specialist
courses on creative computing, the use of digital image manipulation software,
photography and a variety of textile crafts.
Please bring: Notepad and pen, digital camera if you
have one (we can probably lend you one if not), a sample of your own textile
craft and/or design work, pieces of calico, cotton or silk fabric, plain or
coloured tissue paper, brown paper, glue stick, scissors.
Additional costs: There will be a charge for
specialist fabrics and related textile products which students use -
approximate cost £5 - £10.
Tutor profile: Derek Hooper has more than 30
years' experience working in IT and is currently a part-time IT consultant and
tutor in IT subjects, particularly computer graphics which he has been teaching
for a number of years.
