This course aims to... enable learners to create a Beetle in Goldwork Embroidery, based on a pre-designed kit.

It is for... anyone who is interested in intensive hand embroidery. No previous stitching is required, but patience is a must!

During the course... you will transfer a multi-layered design onto backing fabric, start and finish threads invisibly, pad a simple shape with satin stitches, ready for goldwork, apply gold threads via the ‘or nue' technique and work simple patterns with straight and running stitches.

Assessment will be... ongoing, by the tutor, ensuring that as the piece develops, each technique is worked successfully.

By the end of the course… you should be able to:

After the course... other Goldwork courses are on offer at Missenden, as well as a variety of hand-embroidery courses. There are also several excellent books on Goldwork available, with many lovely projects included.

Please bring... a thimble, if you use one and a basic sewing kit if you already have one and prefer to use your own equipment.

Additional costs...  everything is supplied in the form of a high-quality kit which can be paid for on the day (£15.00), and I also bring a stock of embroidery frames which can be borrowed or purchased. I usually travel with a well-stocked 'shop' of embroidery-related materials and equipment.

Tutor profile: Classically trained at the Royal School of Needlework, Kelley has been stitching for over 30 years, and teaching for over 20. She focuses primarily on traditional hand embroidery techniques, and enjoys introducing beginners to the craft.
