This course aims to... give you a good understanding
of the basic techniques and tools necessary to produce quality patchwork and
quilting on your sewing machine.
It is for... beginners who have never done patchwork
on the sewing machine or those who tried to self teach without much success. I
teach fun and stress free quilt making and I look forward to getting you
addicted to this fascinating craft.
During the course... you will learn how to choose
fabrics and colours and prepare them for cutting. I will introduce you to successful
rotary cutting and show you how to piece quickly and accurately. We will then
put the blocks together and I will explain machine quilting. As we are making a
wall hanging size quilt it will be possible to get some quilting done in class.
Assessment will be... through continuous observation
and discussion, we will only proceed when you feel comfortable that you are
ready to take on more information. My goal is to build confidence not to
intimidate!
By the end of the course… you should be able to:
· Choose successful colour combinations for your quilts
· Prepare and cut accurate shapes
· Sew a good 1/4"seam
· Press well
· Prepare a quilt top that lays flat ready for quilting
· Sandwich the quilt
· Machine quilt with basic straight line quilting
· Choose the correct needles and threads
After the
course... you
can continue to grow in your skills by attending other workshops or follow
written instruction easily.
Please bring… a sewing machine with an even
feed or walking foot. Pins, scissors and a 50"square of cotton wadding. I
can provide a complete fabric kit for you or you can bring your own. Please
contact me direct so we can discuss this option. I want you to be successful and
using the right tools is important. Feel free to ring me on 01458 210 432.
I will bring rotary cutters and mats but if you have your own please bring
them. You will also need 100% cotton thread 50 weight.
Additional costs... see kit information above. You
will also be able to purchase machine needles and cotton thread from me if you
wish but there is no obligation. If you contact me I can give you an estimate
of these costs.
