Information Specific to Pipers Corner
Full address - Pipers Corner School, Pipers Lane, (off A4128) Great Kingshill, High Wycombe , HP15 6LP.
Getting to Pipers Corner - Pipers Corner is just ten minutes away from Missenden Abbey by car, along quiet country roads. Learners resident at the Abbey or staying in B&B within walking distance of the Abbey will have the option of using free transport provided daily at specified times. Free Parking within the school campus is available during Summer School for all car users.
New art block – The building work taking place last year during Summer School has resulted in expanded facilities available for Summer School this year, which consist of superb classroom space, beautifully equipped for the purpose of art courses, ceramics, textiles and even cookery. You will undoubtedly enjoy the privilege of working in such splendid surroundings.
Swimming – The option of using the beautiful Orchard swimming pool at Pipers Corner may be available to Summer School participants on weeks 1 and 2 of Summer School (W/C 26 July and W/C 2 August 2010). Subject to viability, tutors and learners will be invited to take advantage of the pool to wind down from the day’s activities - between 5.45 and 6.45pm Monday to Thursday (£4.00 per session, or £15.00 for 4 sessions). Do bring your swimming gear just in case!
The school campus - The new art block is located on three floors with lift facilities. All other classrooms are on the ground floor. The dining room where the coffee and lunch facilities are located is also on the ground floor. However, a fair amount of walking within the school campus is involved and an umbrella might be advisable for wet days. The furniture in the classrooms is typical of a school, so if you feel the need for a little more comfort you may wish to bring a cushion or pillow to sit on.
Drinking water dispensers will be provided in the dining room but there is no drinking water in the classrooms, so you may wish to bring your own bottled water.
Craft suppliers - Various different suppliers visit Pipers Corner on most days to sell course materials but there are no convenience shops within walking distance.
Meals
Evening meals will not be available at Pipers Corner, but learners are welcome to book dinners at the Abbey subject to availability on the day. Please book dinners directly through Abbey reception or through a member of staff at Pipers Corner (Abbey dinner £10)
Lunches for non-resident learners – a variety of salad lunches throughout the week will be provided at Pipers Corner. These are prepared each morning using a range of fresh ingredients, served with French bread or rolls, butter and dressing and followed by a selection of fresh fruit. A vegetarian option will be offered daily. Please note that lunches need to be booked and paid for at the time of enrolling on the course - £7.50 per person per day. IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO ORDER LUNCH ON THE DAY.
Lunches for Abbey residents whose courses take place at Pipers Corner - The salad lunch option will be available to Abbey residents as an alternative to returning to the Abbey for lunch. There is no difference in the cost, as lunch menus at the Abbey have been modified to offer a lighter option comparable to lunches at Pipers.
Please note that if abbey residents working at Pipers wish to return to the Abbey for lunch, they need to advise us at the time of booking and they will need to organise their own transport, as free transport is not available at lunchtime.
